1. Foster Parents. We are always in need of GREAT foster homes. Fostering a Sheltie is like having another dog of your own for a while. Rescue Shelties often come with baggage. They are usually very upset for the first few days. After all they don't know what has happened to them, where they are and who you are. They need a lot of TLC and time to adjust.  New foster parents need to complete an application, an interview, vet reference, and fence check for approval.

2. Pet services are frequently needed. Baths and grooming will help a LOT. WHEW! You don't have to be a professional, just willing to learn!  Temporary dog sitting is important, especially for the summer months, to give our full time foster parents a short vacation. This would be for a week or two.

3. Sheltie Adoption Posters need to be made, faxed, sent or delivered to businesses in different communities to help promote adoptions.

4. Home visits and fence checks. Home visits and fence checks completed really help get potential adopters pre-approved so they are ready to adopt. These are needed in all communities in the metro area, Topeka, Lawrence and other cities.  Training for this is provided and can expedite a Sheltie going home.

5. Transporting Shelties to or from Shelters or other rescue groups can really save lives. Transporting dogs to or from the vet for vet work can prove to be a big help, since the veterinary arrival times are 7:30 a.m., and pick up times are by 5:00 p.m.

6. Extra hands and eyes are always helpful at scheduled events and regular Adopt-A-Pet events. Volunteers to help set up, take down, and work booths at dog related events. Parade participants and just helpers are always needed.

7. Folks who can sew and crafty folks are needed to make belly bands, party collars, dog beds, pillows, sew KCSR labels on our products and even have ideas and skills for new products.
Kansas City Sheltie Rescue is totally volunteer based rescue group. It is made up of dedicated, hard working individuals with a passion for rescuing Shelties. Each foster brings individual talents and ideas to the group. We are always in need of volunteers who are willing to help in various ways. All volunteers must complete an Adoption Application. Here is a list that might spark your interests:
