Hattie is a sweet but very shy older girl. She is 8 years old and came from a breeding situation. She is potty trained, and her kennel is her safe space. Hattie's coat was a mess when she came to us, and she was very overweight - but her teeth are in great shape! After several months with good nutrition and care, with regular grooming, she has been slowly losing the extra pounds and her thick, mahogany coat is really coming in nicely. The ladies at the groomer all love Hattie because she is so sweet and always wants them to stop and give her belly rubs!

While Hattie was clearly socialized with dogs and accepts handling, she has been very slow to warm up to people. Hattie loves playing with her young foster brother (our sheltie), who has really helped teach her how to be a dog and enjoy life - they spend a lot of time wrestling around in the backyard, barking at birds and squirrels, and finding new creative ways to get into things!  She is learning to walk on a leash, and loves to see new things and smell new smells.

It has taken time, but her favorite place is to be near her foster mom, and will even nose in when she wants attention :)  Hattie is still very anxious around men, and doesn't like children, so would do better with female adopter/s.

She must have a securely fenced yard and only walked on a leash!  Hattie is too nervous to come when called!
